Technology

G.A.S. analysers work on the principle of Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS). This technology is based on the gas phase mobilities of ions in an electric field.

The ions of a substance generated due to partial discharge, UV lamp or a 63Ni source inside the so-called ionisation chamber are separated from one another on their way through the drift tube according to their molecular mass and/or geometric structure.

The characteristic drift times of ions through this tube allows a rapid detection, identification as well as quantification of substances. The extreme sensitivity (ppbv to pptv level) and speed (in a few seconds) are the crucial advantages of the IMS-technology.
