Odorisation of Natural GasToday Natural Gas belongs to one of the most important energy sources with an increasing importance every year. Due to the fact that Natural Gas is odourless to the human being, odorisation is one of the most important safety measures of the Natural Gas suppliers (public utilities).
Besides the sulphurous odorants like mercaptan (e.g.TBM) as well as tetrahydrothiophene (THT)that due to SO2-emissions are harmful to the environment when being burnt,
Gasodor-S-Free has been introduced as an innovative alternative.
The portable
µIMS®-ODOR as well as the fixed installed
IMS-ODOR enable a precise quantification of
Gasodor-S-Free in Natural Gas. While the portable
µIMS®-ODOR can be connected to any possible point of the local gas net, the
IMS-ODOR is fixed installed at a certain measurement point in order to secure an automatic and continuous monitoring of the odorant concentration at any time. Both systems are outstanding with respect to user friendliness and are easy in use. It takes only 80 seconds to carry a measurement in the relevant range of 4-20 mg/m3 while the instruments have an accuracy of +/- 2 mg/m3, so that an economic use of the odorant can be assured.
The desktop software GASreport® that belongs to the scope of supply
µIMS®-ODOR allows a data management and documentation of the acquired results. The
IMS-ODOR transfers the measurement results automatically via remote data transmission the control room of the utilities, enabling fast reactions in case of abnormalities concerning the odorisation.
