Determination of Metabolites

Volatiles compounds can be information carrier of different metabolic processes. The monitoring of these processes allows a determination of changes in biological substances or even certain biological processes.

Building Protection

Indoor infestation with mould can lead to health problems (e.g. allergic reactions) of the inhabitants. Therefore the detection and removal of such mould is of mayor importance. The detected Volatile Organic Compounds caused by Mould (MVOC) are indicators of which.
The A-IMS coupled to a fast gas-chromatographic separation excels in its outstanding sensitivity for most MVOC and delivers results in a few minutes.


Breath Analysis

It is known in medicine that a change of the composition and/or quantity of different Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the human breath can be an indication of different diseases. Besides the analysis of urine or blood the analysis of the human breath allows a fast, non-invasive and cost-effective determination of the VOC.
The BRIMS, whose sampling is realized through a measurement of the velocity of sound and gas chromatographic pre-separation and especially adapted to the breath analysis, allows a selective detection of volatile marker substances of respiratory diseases. Due to the extreme sensitivity of the ion mobility spectrometer (IMS) a direct analysis without time consuming pre-concentration of the samples is possible, leading to run times of a few minutes only. The multi-dimensional data report as well as the possibility to generate a data bank of characteristic metabolite patterns via multivariate analytic software airspect causes an outstanding attractiveness of the device for this application.
